I love decorating for all of the holidays. Easter is my second favorite holiday to decorate for. After Christmas, of course!
In case you haven’t noticed, I am pretty frugal! I make regular trips to Dollar Tree for decorating items. I especially like to head over to Dollar Tree after the most recent holiday and getting great items for 1/2 price!
Dollar Tree Glitter eggs
I purchased some plastic eggs after Easter last year. I knew I would find a craft (or two) to use them with! My first thought was to paint the eggs with white chalk paint and glue flowers on them. While painting them, I kept thinking that I wanted to do more.
I decided that I needed some glitter! I mean, who doesn’t love glitter?
Here is how I made these Dollar Tree Glitter Eggs:
- Pour some craft paint into a dish and sprinkle with a little bit of plaster of paris (maybe a 1/4 tsp. of plaster of paris to 1/2 bottle of paint), stir well. Make sure all of the lumps are gone. (You just made chalk paint!)
- Open the eggs and then cut the piece that attaches them, you want the egg separated.
- Using a small paint brush, apply the paint to each egg. You will need to give each egg at least 2 coats of paint.
- Let the paint dry between each coat. I let them dry for about an hour after each coat.
- Put the eggs back together.
- Pour some white glue in a dish (I used Elmers).
- Pour various colors of glitter in bowls.
- Using another paint brush, paint half of the egg with glue (You could paint the whole egg if you choose). I painted the larger part of the egg with paint.
- As soon as you have applied the glue, cover the egg with glitter. Tap of any excess and then set aside to dry.
- I made sure that I covered the seam with glue. I wanted to make sure that the seam was covered with glitter and was no longer visable.
- Set aside to dry. I used an upside down egg container to dry them in.
You are now finished! I love these eggs. I think they add such flair to my table. I was really excited to be able to use some of my egg cup collection to display them in.
I can think of so many ways to use these eggs. Here are a few of my ideas: lay them in a basket, use them in a mantle setting, place them on the center of a plate at the dinner table.

I think you could easily use them in a Tea Time setting. What are your great ideas for using these frugal, easy and fun Dollar Tree Glitter Eggs?
