I am in love with black and gold lately and it seems to be all the rage. I decided I needed to have some of my own accessories that incorporated these two colors. I also love feathers. They also seem to be really in. Here is an easy tutorial on how to create your own black and gold feather earrings.
Black and Gold Feather Earrings
Here’s what you need:
- Black Fimo
- Acrylic Rolling Pin (This is for rolling out the Fimo. Do not use your kitchen rolling pin )
- Skewer/Needle
- Gold Craft Paint ( I used Martha Stewart)
- Paint Brush
- Earring Wires
- Jump Rings (4mm and 6mm)
- Round Nose Pliers
- Painters Tape
Begin by rolling out two pieces of the Fimo. Make sure each section of Fimo is rolled out to the same thickness. If you don’t feel comfortable free handing the feather on your own, find a clip art that you can use as a pattern. Place it right on the top of your Fimo and trace.
Cut out the feather shape and make the hole for the jump ring at the top. Make sure it is a close to the top as possible. I used the end of the skewer to make the hole and carefully worked the hole till it was large enough.
Take a skewer or sewing needle and make two lines down the center of the feather.
Go back and make lines on each side going all the way down. When you get the feathers looking the way you want, bake them according to the Fimo directions.
When cooloed, take painters tape and mark off the bottoms of the earrings. Paint the tips gold. Put one layer on and let dry. Then put on another.
Open the earring wire. Attach a 6mm jump ring through the hole of the feather. Attach the 4mm jump ring to the earring wire and then close the loop of the earring.
Now, you have a great pair of stylish earrings for any occasion.
