This is a very quick and simple tutorial to make a piece of jewelry that has just enough of a modern edge to it.  I love the simplicity of this necklace.

Simple Spike Necklace

Here’s what you need:

  • Gold Chain (I purchased mine at Michael’s.  Look for a smaller/thinner chain)
  • 6 to 8mm Jump Ring
  • Spikes (I purchased my from M&J Trimming.  I bought the spike trim because I was going to use it for something else, but that never panned out.)
  • 4mm Jump Ring
  • Lobster Claw

Measure a piece of chain at 30″ and cut with wire cutters. My intent for his necklace is that it is supposed to be a longer styled one.  Fold it in half.

Cut the chain and add the 8mm jump ring using needle nose pliers.  Take the chain and measure 3 separate pieces of chain.  I measured one short, medium, and long.  I just eyeballed the three different lengths and attached them to the jump ring.

Here is the spike fringe that I purchased from M&J Trimmings.  I just removed the spikes by undoing the jump ring and used the existing jump rings on the spikes for my necklace.  This was perfect!

Now, attach a jump ring to one side of the necklace at the top and a jump ring with a lobster claw to the other side.
