A couple of posts ago, I made the Simple Spike Necklace and decide that I had to have a great pair of earrings to go with it. If you have never made earrings before or any type of jewelry, don’t be intimidated. Jewelry making is very simple as long as you have the right tools. If fact, most jewelry making doesn’t require a lot of tools which is great. Like anything, jewelry making just takes a little bit of time to get the hang of. I taught myself jewelry making before it became popular and before there were a lot of books out there. I just started playing around with the beads and wire, and I haven’t been able to stop since.
Simple Spike Earrings
Here’s what you need for this project:
- Small Gold Chain (I purchased mine from Michaels.)
- 2 Earring Wires
- Spikes (Mine are from M&J Trimming)
- Round Needle Nose Pliers
Step #1:
Start by cutting 2 chains 1.5″ long.
Step #2:
Take the spike fringe and open up the jump ring that is attached to the chain. If you don’t have the spike fringe from M&J Trimming, purchase spikes like these from Etsy. Attach a jump ring to a spike. Then connect this to the chain.
Step #3:
Attach a spike to the end of the chain. Then attach a spike to every other opening on the chain. I used a total of 10 spikes on each chain.
Step #4:
Open up the bottom of the ear wire.
Step #5:
Attach the chain and close the ear wire.
It’s that simple. Now you have a pair of really cool, modern spike earrings! Enjoy!
