Looking for a fun and creative way to enjoy the winter weather? Look no further than duck tape sleds! These DIY sleds are not only easy to make, but they are durable and perfect for zooming down snowy hills. Get ready to add some excitement to your winter activities with these unique and inventive sleds.

We happened to have a real snow day not long ago in Seattle. Coming from Southern California, we aren’t quite winterized yet including having sleds for the kids. We decided we couldn’t let our daughters miss out on all the snowy fun so we would make our own sleds using Duck Tape and cardboard moving boxes.

Duck Tape Sleds!

Here’s what you need:

  • Small Standard Size Moving Box (16″ X 12″ X 12″)
  • Scissors
  • Duck Tape (various colors and prints help make great custom designs)

Begin by opening your box and trimming the sides off. Next fold the front in half to double it up. Tape the sides of the doubled area and then cut out a slot that is large enough to fit your kids gloves or mittens into. Keep it close to the top, but not too close, or you will loose all of the strength of the cardboard and rip it. If you do cut it close don’t worry. You will just have to wrap it a few more times with Duck Tape.

Wrap the front of the cardboard completely with the tape being sure to overlap the seam between what is the front and the bottom.

Next, cover the top and bottom of the cardboard. Be sure to cover it well so water doesn’t get into the cardboard. Be sure to run the tape lengthwise for maximum speed potential! 🙂

That’s It. It only took about 10 minutes per sled, and my daughters chose their own colors and have their initials too (not that we couldn’t tell who’s was who’s.) My girls had a great time helping and designing their sleds. The other thing is these sleds fold up and are nice and compact, so we can take them anywhere. A few days later we went up into the mountains and we took the sleds along for their second use.

We have found the sleds to work extremely well, especially in icy conditions but they worked great in the slushy snow as you can see in the photos. The Duck tape Sleds we made are quite durable and very convenient… just don’t count on your kids to break any downhill speed records with them, but they will still have a great time.

When it comes to unconventional winter fun, Duck Tape sleds offer a creative and exciting twist to traditional sledding. The versatility and durability of Duck Tape make it a perfect material for crafting unique sled designs that can glide through snow with style. Whether you’re looking to add some flair to your winter adventures or simply enjoy a DIY challenge, Duck Tape sleds are sure to bring a smile to your face. FAQs

Q: Why Is Tape Called Duck Tape?

A: The original name of duct tape is where the term “duct tape” originates. There are two sources for this name. First of all, army green cotton duck fabric was originally used to make the tape. Furthermore, it was said that the tape’s water-resistant qualities made it reject water like a duck’s back.

Q: How Does Duck Tape Work?

A: The natural stickiness of duct tape is derived from an adhesive substance called pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). PSAs are blends of soft polymers that combine two objects by taking use of van der Waals forces.

Q: Is Duct Tape Useful?

A: Nowadays, duct tape is utilized for a variety of tasks, including general sealing, repairing holes, packaging boxes, and other repairs. Certain types of duct tape can also adhere to uneven and rough surfaces, including metal, wood, stone, plaster, and brick, both indoors and outdoors.
