Since we’re almost in the Dog Days, I thought I’d share a project with you all that just screams “Summer.” These Fishing Floats String Lights are inexpensive to make and add the perfect nautical touch to any porch!
Fishing Floats String Lights

Materials:
- Spherical String Lights (I found mine in the dollar section at Target)
- String
- Tape (for securing while making the net)
Step One. These Fishing Floats String Lights are easy to make once you get the hang of how to attach the string to each sphere. Depending on your light strand, the process of transforming each sphere into a fishing float can be somewhat lengthy so I suggest working on these while watching a good movie or show. Follow the steps pictured below to make each small net. Try to keep your knots nice and even but don’t worry too much about perfection, they’re too small to even notice!
Step Two. Once all the knots have been tied, interlace another strand of string through the end knots (step 5) and pull to tighten. Tie a knot to secure (step 6) and trim all excess strings. Tada! You’ve just transformed a normal light into a super fun mini fishing float! Repeat the steps for the rest of your lights and then hang on your porch to enjoy!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and consider making some Fishing Floats String Lights of your own! I hung mine on our porch but you could also use them on a mantle or inside a centerpiece with some shells. You’re sure to enjoy them either way!
