I have seen so many cute sandals lately. Gotta love summer time and sandals. Here’s a pair of sandals I just recently purchased at Target. Do you want to refashion them to go with a favorite outfit? Here’s two quick and inexpensive ways to refashion your sandals.
Two Ways To Refashion Sandals
Idea #1
Here’s what you will need for the flora pom pom:
- 1/4 yard of chiffon fabric
- Cardboard Circle
- Scissors
- Coordinating Thread
- Needle
- Felt
- Hot Glue Gun
- Velcro
I used a lid to make my cardboard template. The lid was 3″ . Trace the lid onto a piece of cardboard and cut the circle out. Using that cardboard template, cut out 8 to 9 chiffon circles.
Take each circle and fold it in half three times.
Once the circle has been folded three times, round the top edges off.
By trimming the edges you will end up with a perfect flower.
Refold the flower in half two times and start sewing each section together. Your flower pom pom will slowly start forming. As it starts to form, add the additional pieces where needed to form a full flower.
To attach to it to your shoe there are a couple of methods. For a more permanent method, cut out a felt circle and glue it to the back of the flower.
Now, you can take this and hot glue it to your sandal. If you prefer to have it be a more temporary attachment, hot glue the hook side of the Velcro to the back of the floral pom pom. Like this.
Make another circle and hot glue the loop side of the Velcro to the circle.
Now, sandwich these two pieces in between your sandal. You may have to adjust the size of the circle according to where you are going to attach this to your sandal. If the strap is thick on your sandal, make the circle larger and use a thicker and longer piece of Velcro.
Here’s idea #2
This idea is so simple and will take no time at all.
Here’s what you will need:
- Ribbon in three different colors/stretchy elastic
- Fray Check by Dritz
- Scissors
For each sandal you will have to cut 3 pieces of each color at roughly 2 1/2″ to 3″.
Tie each of these to your sandal and double knot. Trim as needed with scissors. Finish the edges in Fray Check if you are wanting these for a more permanent look. It will make your ribbon/elastic last longer without fraying.
Now you have two great way to customize your sandals to match any outfit for the summer. Enjoy!
