Every year I’ve tried to make a homemade ornament or two for our tree. Some of the ornaments were definitely a lot more labor intensive than others. I have some needlepoint ornaments that have taken months to make. Lately, I haven’t had the time to devote to one needlepoint ornament so I’ve tried to come up with less time consuming ornaments that are still homemade. If you’re looking for a pretty easy ornament to make for Christmas, this is the one for you. This will make up in no time and give your tree a touch of homemade goodness. I’ve also included a free template to make it even easier for you.
Rustic Flannel Star Ornament with Free Template
Materials Needed:
- Flannel Fabric
- Star Ornament Template
- Button
- Matching Thread
- Scissors
- Needle
- Button
- Jute
- Fiber Fill
Directions:
Step 1: Print out the free template found above. Cut out the star pattern. Place the star pattern on top of your fabric and cut two stars.
Step 2: Cut a 10″ piece of jute. If you would like the loop to be a little smaller you can take a couple of inches off. (I don’t like the loops to be too small so I used 10″)
Step 3: Create a loop and sandwich this in between the two pieces of fabric. If your fabric is single sided, make sure the faces are together. Also, make sure the ends of the jute are at the top of the star… & they can even be hanging out just a little bit.
Step 4: Sew a 1/4″ seam allowance around the star. Leave about a 1″ hole. When you start to sew (in case you haven’t done much sewing), remember to back stitch a little bit. Repeat this when you stop. This will help prevent your stitches from coming out when you flip the start right side out. As you sew around the star, make sure to feel where the top or rounded part of your jute loop is on the inside, so you don’t sew over it.
Step 5: Flip the star right side out.
Step 6: Stuff the star with fiber filling.
Step 7: With coordinating thread, sew your remaining hole closed.
Step 8: Find a fun button to sew on the front. Sew a stitch or two threw to the back to get the tufted look.
I Love how this turned out!
These would look great hanging from a package too!
There you have it! Pretty, quick, and easy. Enjoy.
