I have loved rolled flowers and the rolled flower necklaces for sometime now. I wanted to make my own twist on this old favorite. Occasionally, through some garage sales or estate sales that I go to, I will find old rhinestone broaches. I kept saving them till I came up with a project that would be just perfect for them.

Rolled Flower Necklace With Vintage Broaches
Here’s what you will need for this project:
- A couple of different types of fabrics.
- Needle
- Thread
- Broaches, Buttons, or Clasps to Bracelets or Necklaces
- Small D Rings (or you could use the round rings if you can’t find the D rings)
- Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun
Start by creating various sizes of the rolled flowers. I primarily used the large size. But I have a couple of medium and small flowers too. Here’s a good tutorial to use for the rolled flowers if you have never made them before at this site.
Connect the rolled flowers by sewing them together. A much faster way would be to hot glue them. However, I always seem to get the hot glue everywhere so sewing is a better alternative for me. Do what works for you.
Attaching the broaches is very easy since most of them have pins on the back. If you use rhinestone buttons, just sew them onto the rolled flowers.
Attach the D rings by sewing them to either side of the necklace.

Use a piece of felt to back the necklace. Trim the felt if necessary. Hot glue it into place.

Cut two pieces of ribbon. I used the grosgrain because I think over time it holds up better. Satin ribbon has a tendency to show every wrinkle when you tie it. But, of course this is up to you.
Now to create a finished edge that will not fray. Start by folding the edge underneath and hot gluing it into place. Sew the end to the main piece of ribbon. Make sure your D ring is looped into the ribbon. Repeat for the other side.

Now you have a modern twist to a rolled flower necklace with a classy vintage look that is easy to create.
It will be a nice addition to any wardrobe!

FAQs
Q: How Do You Identify Vintage Brooches?
A: Examine any clasp or hinge and determine the time period that the style was popular. The older the brooch, the less mechanical the clasp or fastener appears to be. Because thicker pins were made to get through several layers of thick cloth, they also generally point to an older object.
Q: What Are The Different Types Of Vintage Brooch Clasps?
A: Victorian times saw a huge demand for C clasps, with most people wearing some form of C clasp from about 1850 to 1910. One of the original types of clasps used on antique brooches is the extended C clasp, which is an older variant of the C clasp.
Q: Which Type Of Brooches That Are Traditionally Made Of Flower Design?
A: Conventionally, foliate brooches are embellished with floral or leafy patterns. These exquisite brooches are frequently worn as symbols of love or friendship.
