Fabric Bracelet Tutorial : Creative & Easy

February 22, 2025

My niece and nephew are a tween and a teen, respectively. Thus, they love gift cards. I thought I’d dress up their gifts this year by creating a personalized gift card holder, attaching a little envelope onto the humble toilet roll snowflake.

GCHolder

Gift Card Holder-Materials:

GCHolder2
  • Empty toilet roll
  • Craft knife
  • Self-healing mat
  • Ruler/Straight edge
  • Adhesives (I used glue dots, double-stick tape and a Xyron sticker maker)
  • Decorative paper
  • Velcro (optional)
  • Paper punches
  • Something to create personalization in front (I just printed out the letters, or you can use stamps, cut-outs, etc).
  • Hole punch
  • Thin ribbon or twine

Gift Card Holder Directions

You (and/or your kids) have probably made a toilet roll snowflake before, but if not, then here’s how:

Flatten toilet roll with your hand

GCHolder3

Using your craft knife, cut 1/2 inch pieces of toilet roll. You’ll need six for one snowflake.

GCHolder4

Apply adhesive (either glue, glue dots, or double-stick tape) to the end of each piece.

GCHolder5

Stick them together at the ends until you have six pieces…

GCHolder6

…forming a snowflake. Set aside.

GCHolder7

Now we’ll make the envelope to fit your standard gift card with some wiggle room. Cut a 3.5×10-inch piece of paper

GCHolder8

Fold it at 4 inches, then fold the top down which will be the envelope flap. So you’ll have two four-inch sections plus a 2-inch flap.

GCHolder9

If you like, you can cut a corner, or round the corners, or leave it as is, etc.

GCHolder10

Apply double-stick tape to the edges of the middle section, fold up the other 4-inch section and press onto the tap, forming the envelope.

GCHolder11

I found some sticky Velcro dots in my stash, from 7 years ago, while experimenting with different wedding invitation designs. Does Velcro expire?

GCHolder12

Here’s where the gift card goes.

GCHolder13

Now we’ll make the sticker that goes on top of the snowflake. Cut out your background shape (this is a 1.5-inch circle)

GCHolder15

And cut out one with your personalization on it. I used the Harrington font, 80pt. Apply adhesive (I used the Xyron here) and stick onto the background shape.

GCHolder16

Then use glue/glue dots to apply to the snowflake. Most of the sticking will be on the middle of the snowflake where all the “petals” join together.

GCHolder17

Then adhere the back of the envelope on the other side of the snowflake.

GCHolder18

Punch holes at the top of the top petal and string on a piece of thin ribbon or twine.

GCHolder19

And you’re done. Here they’re doubling as an ornament, or you could use them as a topper on a bigger gift.

GCHolder20

I have already given these to my niece and nephew, who both said “oh cool!” when I gave it to them. Yep, that’s me…cool auntie.
